The year 2021 has been all about the revival of fashion trends from all across the centuries. Big brands like Prada and Gucci have also leaped recreating these fashion looks. And why not? After all, this year was all about it. Whether it is clothing or it is jewellery, everything has the traditional aura attached to it. All over the world, vintage inspired dresses have sought all the attention.

What exactly does the term “vintage” imply?

The term vintage is derived from the English word, which refers to the year in which particular wine was produced. Of course, the adage holds the older, the better. Vintage now refers to a wide range of daily things, interiors, music, automobiles, jewellery, and fashion from a previous era. They have not, however, lost their purpose or usefulness as a result of their age.

A vintage piece’s worth is generally guaranteed by traditional artistry, timelessness, longevity, and exciting history. For a long time, the only way to obtain them was to go flea market hunting for treasure or to pass them down from generation to generation.

It’s a lot easier nowadays: sites for exclusive second-hand clothes, for example, provide an unending supply of professionally curated vintage apparel from the high-end market.

Vintage appearance vs. vintage inspired dresses

The “vintage style” emerged at the start of the twenty-first century, inspired by the beauty and appeal of retro objects. Production techniques were created to replicate things with the appearance of the past without really being old. The idea is to use contemporary production processes to create a historical design.

Products from fresh collections are adorned with light traces of usage, epochal prints, or aesthetic features from bygone eras, defining a season that takes place many decades later. This means that both antique and replica products can be labelled as vintage.

However, the value of antique or vintage-looking items and places to obtain them vary. While the ready-to-wear vintage aesthetic is seen on current catwalks and is mainly accessible online and in stores, real throwback gems appear slightly different.

Purchasing exclusive items is frequently more difficult and expensive because they aren’t collections but relatively high-quality one-of-a-kind things. However, it is not difficult, thanks to internet flea markets, thrift portals, and contemporary auction platforms.

There is more to it!

The vintage concept extends product life cycles, reduces waste, and eliminates the need for frequent, ecologically damaging manufacturing of new items. As a result, environmental conservation is actively promoted. While vintage inspired dresses may not always satisfy these criteria, the recreated antique collections might indirectly support sustainability.
